The most fitting descriptor for Gwyneth Paltrow’s Amagansett backyard? It’s very Gwyneth Paltrow. The Oscar-winning actress and Goop founder recently allowed Vogue’s camera crew into her extremely on-brand Hamptons backyard for the magazine’s “73 Questions” video franchise. In the clip, we’re taken on a tour of a bucolic oasis, featuring expansive lawns and a serene swimming pool. This month marks the 15th anniversary of Goop, and the lifestyle brand has leaned heavily into the wellness sector over the years (promoting everything from women’s sexual health supplements to her famous vagina scented candles), so anything wellness-related is to be expected. Still, the space is so quintessentially her that we couldn’t help but unpack the most Gwyneth things about the star’s Hamptons backyard.

Her elite doorstop

Paltrow’s carefree, live-life-as-I-see-fit attitude is well documented, but even Vogue’s reveal that she uses her Academy Award as a doorstop to prop open a gate in her backyard was a bit of a shocker. “What a beautiful Academy Award,” interviewer Joe Sabia exclaims as the video pans to the golden statuette leaning between the ground and the gate. Paltrow jokingly replies, “My doorstop. It works perfectly!”

Paltrow won the Academy Award for best actress in 1999 at the age of 26, but never truly felt comfortable with the win. She admitted in a 2005 interview that the honor “weirds me out,” and that she still hasn’t arrived at a space where she feels positively about it: “I just feel sort of embarrassed and it brings up weird, traumatic feelings. It’s associated with a tough time in my life.” Where most actors would treat the golden statuette with reverence, Paltrow’s “perfect” use of the status symbol as a quotidian object that sits outside on the ground is an undeniably Gwyneth move.

Her luxe wellness features

What’s a Paltrow home without some wellness-centric spaces? “Cold plunges and saunas are amazing for detoxification and circulation,” she tells Sabia in the Vogue video, as she gestures for him to enter the sauna and then playfully locks him in. Paltrow also included a full-blown spa with a cold plunge, sauna, steam room, and hot tub in her Montecito house, which was on the cover of AD.

Her farmer’s market quality garden

There are tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, all manner of herbs, a variety of lettuce, and so much more growing in the space. Part of Paltrow’s wellness obsession includes eating healthy, so having control over where her veggies come from just makes sense. It’s also probably pretty convenient for the cookbook author to walk outside to pick her own food, whether she’s experimenting with a new recipe or whipping up dishes for family and friends.

Her apple orchard

“What fruit is on this?” Sabia asks the Royal Tenenbaums actor as they walk toward the trees. “Apples!” she replies with a telling smile. Paltrow famously named her daughter after the fruit. As the Golden Globe winner explained to Oprah in a 2004 interview, Apple’s dad, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, came up with the name. “It sounded so sweet, and it conjured such a lovely picture for me,” Paltrow said. “Apples are so sweet and they’re wholesome, and it’s biblical.” Certainly the choice to cultivate her very own orchard of the fruits serves a sort of loving nod to her up-and-coming model offspring.
